URBAN JUNCTION

2013

Seoul, Korea

Station / Park / Mixed Use

Kyung-In railway was the first train rail in Korea. In the year 1905, the rail extended from Seoul to Busan and became the initial departing station and an economy hub. The YIBD proposed a plan to bury this historical railway to use the land for development. However, since it has more than 120 years of historical value to it, the site should be preserved.

This project suggests to use this historical artifact as a main design source and preserve it as a sunken rail park. Furthermore, since it is situated on the middle of Yongsan Central Park and YIBD, this project focused on the urban relationship of the new district, new park, and the historical station of Yongsan.
